Mark David Chapman is known for murdering John Lennon.
Chapman, who studied at the University of Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, was hospitalized during his youth by mental illness. In 1977 he unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide. While walking to the limo Lennon Chapman got to hold hands with singer and to sign a copy of his latest album "Double Fantasy", nevertheless, remained waiting at the entrance until the couple returned.
Around 10:50 PM, Lennon's limousine returned to the Dakota, Lennon and Ono walked past Chapman road to the entrance of the building. From the street Chapman turned and performed four of the five bullets which hit his back and shoulder Lennon. One of the bullets pierced Lennon's aorta, causing severe blood loss from aortic dissection.
Chapman remained at the scene, pulled out his copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" and try to read it until police arrived. The officers of the Police Department of New York, who were the first to respond to the shooting, acknowledged that Lennon's wounds were very severe so they decided to move to Roosevelt Hospital in the police vehicle. Chapman was arrested without any complications.
Lennon was pronounced dead at 11:20 pm after having lost more than 80% of their blood.
Mark David Chapman, served his sentence of 20 years in 2000, nevertheless, remains in his cell at Attica Correctional Facility. Has been denied parole four times because of "unusual nature" of his crime.
In October 2006, following an audience with the murderer who took 16 minutes, the Parole Commission found that "despite acknowledging positive developments in the attitude of the prisoner, because of the extremely violent nature of the offense, your release would not be appropriate for the interest of the community. " The next appearance before the Parole Commission is scheduled to take place in October 2008, fans of former Beatle, hope it will not be granted.
