Five million pirated books and CDs, burned publicly in China
Last November, Beijing announced a campaign against piracy.
The fires continue in different places until the celebration of World Intellectual Property Organization on 26 April.
Some 5.2 million books, CDs and pirated DVDs were burned on Monday publicly at various locations in China to demonstrate that the government defends the intellectual property, said an official of the authority responsible for combating piracy.
In Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Sichuan organized the first fires that continue elsewhere until the celebration of World Intellectual Property Organization, April 26, the statement said.
Last November, Beijing announced a national campaign against piracy and counterfeiting, and 650,000 agents deployed to test products and stores selling books, software and video until 31 December.
Police confiscated 6.33 million pirated goods and imposed $ 512,000 fines in 227 proven cases of violation of intellectual property rights
