philosophy book the banquet platter
On "Plato's Symposium."
One issue that I like the book "The Banquet" by Plato, is the fact that different interpretations can arise, and become a debate on issues addressed, focus, and other aspects of the book, and even Plato thought in relation to love. Regardless of whether "The Banquet" is what Plato really thought or just a collection of speeches on the subject, to say: philosophizing.
The book is based on a series of speeches on Eros, or love. And by the way love has different aspects. Or did not have sex can not love? Can love a lot. Sex is only a manifestation of love, and we know that is not always synonymous with love.
In relation to the main topic, there are points on which I agree with the book, others do not agree to be provided as opinion, and other points I disagree directly. Although this seems a very interesting book to read.
I think, as the book discusses various approaches, it is not surprising that generates a rejection of the treaty approach, and clarify as I play most of the book:
"Platonic Love" is a phrase that many do not like, because we continue to mention, I ask the person: "Do you play to crush?" In the book I see a story about this way in relation to love:
In fact, until there is a discourse that says one came last, which speaks of his love for Socrates, and although no mention of laughter every reference made, I can easily imagine them in some cases ... because the background is a party, and not for example formal conference. But ... not treat this issue more successful in such a background, if it were in a conference?
As mentioned, the book gives to philosophize.
