The Association of American Publishers (AAP) has published its sales figures for the month of February and the report has been seen as the first time, the sale of securities for ebooks has overtaken print books in all formats both hardcover and pocket.



According to these data, the ebook already has become the favorite format of the readers. In January, the AAP stated that each year the sale of these devices increased by 116%. In February this year that growth has accelerated, reaching 202.3% of the volume of same period last year. Many associate this growth as a parallel consequence of the massive sale of tablets, including the iPad 2.

They have also grown significantly Audiobook sales. In this case, sales increased 37% over twelve months ago, to which there is also a notable increase in January. This increase in sales, with the best-selling ebook, indicate a clear shift in consumer habits, books, and is now looking at the possibility of being able to read at any time on a mobile device.

It is clear that, to some extent, the paperback has always covered that possibility. But neither their small size and lower weight has been saved from falling sales. A fad or a lasting trend?

The AAP has suggested that this trend may be the result of post-holiday sales, when many people received an e-book as a Christmas gift. Still you have to wait to see if this trend continues or does not survive beyond the first for many readers to return eventually to the printed books.
