Mafalda-10 books

Mafalda original series, consisting of 10 books published between 1971 and 1974 by "Ediciones de la Flor SRL, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The strip first appeared in 1961 in the weekly "Front Page" and then in the newspaper "El Mundo" and the magazine "Seven Days." The 10 books contain a total of 1908 strips to 2 per page.

Mafalda "live" on the 10th floor of a building "high and narrow" located in 371 Chile Street. The author lived there with his wife when, in the early 60's, an advertising agency was commissioned to Quino creating a character that would serve to promote a line of appliances. The project was unsuccessful and the appliances were released never, however Mafalda had already germinated in a narrow dining district of San Telmo. neighborhood environment that the author recovered in the comic, including some characters taken from real life. For example George, the newsagent who woke up every morning by the intercom, to agreed time, and that inspired newsboy neighbor of the family of Mafalda.

Mafalda is representative of a busy time in which, among others, the feminist movement took on public force. Quino recalls, "We had an older brother Mafalda had no name." In fact, the character gave the leading role for her sister. Quino explains: "I felt that the girls are more savvy than boys, which I later found reliably." If not one more, Mafalda had a younger brother: the indomitable Guille. To create the youngest of the strip, which at first spoke on "media language" although they made fun of his dad, Quino was inspired by a nephew who is 40 years old today and is a musician and a member of the staff of the Santiago Symphony de Chile. "When I drew was that age, was tiny and foul-mouthed ... shameless ...", admits laundering.

Mafalda What is remarkable is that through it, Quino manages his time painting and reality so effectively, that success beyond the borders of your country and time, since the strip has been translated into over 30 languages and his humor is still in force, lasting until today.
