In fact the real revolution comes through mobile devices, such as tablets, iPhone, iPod, smartphones, etc., which have opened up a world of possibilities for electronic commerce. From magazines as very interesting (still have not tried? Click here) to music or applications can be purchased over the Internet and enjoy them on portable gadgets. In any case, these digital comics can also be read on the computer and are available at Apple App Store.

As explained from the company, the main advantage is the same price as many of them just over two euros. In fact among the best sellers are, for example, Cabezón Jones, Bull Damn City, BB Plan (manual rare for babies with parents) and Fanhunter, Battleground Barnacity which cost 1.59 euros. OBJECTIVE. Google seeks to conquer academics and publishers concerned about the expansion of Google Books.

A research project funded by Google is to link sites and literature, displaying works related to an age or a specific location in Google Earth.
Google Ancient Places, a joint project between the Open University, the University of Southampton and the University of California at Berkeley, will allow users to search for books related to a specific geographic location at a particular time which is then displayed in Google Earth or Google Maps.
Scholars will have access to data compiled for a wide swath of literature, with the inclusion of material out of print and rare which is often a small number of institutions only. Researchers say the project will broaden the interest in history, classics and archeology, but also help develop new tools and methods of research and knowledge and experience to use the information in this way.
Another project, led by Dr. Alfonso Moreno of Magdalen College Oxford, is producing an index of translated European literature from 1701 to 1917. The Bibliotheca Academica Translationum be used to investigate what Moreno describes how changes in the transmission of knowledge in that period.
In total, Google announced it will invest $ 1 million to fund 12 projects at 15 universities analyzed "digital literature" which he defines as "the use of quantitative techniques to analyze large amounts of literature and identify trends over of times selected by language, by geography and by topic. "
A post from Google explains the project in detail, including one that aims to analyze all the literature written in Victorian times to identify trends in the use of vocabulary, while another might compare each version of the opening line of Virgil's Aeneid to see where and how often it is cited.
The researchers also have the support of various Google tools and technologies and have access to parts catalog includes books Google Books scans and histograms.
Clearly, this project is far from being a mother lode of money to Google. It is rather part of a long-term campaign well orchestrated to reassure and win over academics and publishers concerned about the scale and impact of Google's broader initiative on the books.

The book starts selling digital format rather than paper

The latest best seller by Dan Brown (author of The Da Vinci Code) is selling more paper bits. This happens in the bookstore Amazon, the most successful U.S. And it marks a new trend in the publishing market.

"Although e-book devices of great interest to the press and the public at large, so far this fascination is reflected in the cold numbers that manages the publishing business. Sales of electronic copies remained minimal with respect to the titles in the traditional role.

But the trend seems to begin to change the course. And change comes on the heels of the best seller. American mega-bookstores in the Amazon, The Lost Command - the latest book by Dan Brown, a prolific author of The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, among others - is being sold in digital format in the paper. At the bestseller list of mystery novels, The Lost Symbol occupies the top two spots, but the very first version goes to the Kindle (digital).

It's true: this is just a book and a library. But consider that it is the best selling title on the timing and successful bookstore in the country, where the ebook is taking giant steps. Amazon is, moreover, the driver of the Kindle device, which revolutionized the market for e-books in the last year for its ability to connect wirelessly to the wireless network and download the title immediately. This library is usually anticipate important trends in the publishing market, as the blog Gizomología (http://gizmologia.com/).

Among the reasons for this new phenomenon, some point out that digital books are special for a "quick read" as proposed by the author. And others point to the price and simplicity of the process: the digital copy out the Lost $ 9.99 compared to 16.17 it costs Amazon scoot the package with the book to the consumer's home.

Is it just an exception or the starting point for a new way to sell securities publishers? The future now has the floor.

These creative no longer give the coconut imagining futuristic gadgets and devices that we make life easier tomorrow. This time we find this guestbook digital home, which records all going to visit friends. A new conceptual invention One & Co team, the same ones that were removed from the sleeve that musical table for coffee.

It consists of a panel that is placed against the wall. Through its built-in camera is photographing all the guests who are slowly coming to your party. On the screen you can see who have come before you and within, so if you do not get along with one of the guests can turn around and avoid a difficult situation. But keep in mind that, surely others will miss.

If not the first time you go to the house, the screen displays the photos you have been taking along time. It may be funny if you regularly change her look regularly. Or depressing, if you do not take very well to having less hair and have put a few kilos in recent years. Even suspect, if you find that the plumber has been at home more often than usual. In any case, you can keep the pictures that you like sending them straight to your inbox.

As usual in this type of inventions, or the guest book really exists and there is no intention by any company to produce it, at least in the short term. But always interesting to contemplate, under the witty point of view of the designers, how they could change our lives in a few years with these devices. "We will take office in the suitcase? And the computer on the wrist? Travelling in sports Segway? Dreaming is free, and healthy too.

Comics, the future will be digital

07 FEB 2010

For some time, experts and fans of the comics are debating whether the market's future is linked, such as books, digital format. So far, the limitations of current e-Readers, with poor quality reproduction of images and the absence of color in most cases, made the paper still had too many advantages.

For its part, the screens of the iPhone or the PSP, which themselves are in color, are too small for what you want a comic book reader. However, the arrival of IPAD-and competitors-with a screen roughly the same size paper that comics could change the landscape of comics forever, like the iPod did with music.

Is it an exaggeration to say something? It could be but it seems if you read an article in Publishers Weekly "in which several U.S. publishers ask about the future of comics with the launch of the iPad. Virtually all agree that it is an excellent device for the genre and some, like Top Shelf, IDW, Top Cow Viz or, and are preparing to adapt their works to the unit.

"Probably going to have a significant long-term effect, since most of the things that we publish can be read at a size comparable to the current physical books," says a representative of Top Shelf.

The consequences for the publishing industry, and even the authors-will soon be noted as comic book expert explains Álvaro Pons in his blog "The prison of paper." "Does he know the market adapt? The change will be too drastic and radical transitions sucolocar will," he says on his blog Pons, who also sees the opening of "incredible opportunities for authors, they can explore new resources and narrative forms" .

The authors of one of the best applications to read comics on the iPhone and the iPod, Panel Fly, and is working to be prepared the day of release of IPAD. Only a matter of time that the big publishers like Marvel and DC, to join the party. What do you think? Do you think that in future comics are read in "tablets"?

The future of digital books goes through advertising

e-Books

The new media and digital devices and the changing ways of consuming content by the readers are revolutionizing the publishing industry and the publishing world, a transformation that will also lead to new business models and forms.

These are some conclusions of the monograph The future of electronic publishing, edited by Fundación Telefónica and Ariel, in which a dozen publishing industry experts, academic, economic and legal have provided their assessments and forecasts on the future of this area.

Digital books downloaded from Internet with advertising and a lower cost to the reader, interactive novels, combining several publications custom volumes or "socialization" of shared or commenting on social networks appear among the options open to companies and readers and are already changing the industry.

Antonio Castillo, coordinator of the Digital Spain Fundación Telefónica, said in the report that the continuing cheapening of devices, like electronic books or tablets, make "written contents can be consumed in other formats and adapt them to suit the consumer. "

In this regard, the report highlights the fact that digital technology allows the separation of the contents of the continent, making it possible to start reading a text in an e-book and continue on a PC.

Santos Palazzi, director of mass market area of Metro Group, said that reading will have a social environment where readers can share their views and comments on social networks. The challenge for publishers is, according to Palazzi, maximize the exposure of their own content and make them stand out "in the supply maremagnum" that exist on the Internet.

The digitization of content opens doors to new business models such as the purchase of fragmented content, book chapters, individual news-by micropayments, subscriptions based on access to content for a fixed or adapted to the literary tastes of the user.

Access to digital books will allow the inclusion of some form of advertising, which could benefit both the editor, to get extra income, and the user, which could see reduced purchase price of the copies accepting advertising consumption defined , the report said.

In the case of newspapers and digital magazines, which include advertising, is where new innovations will be in the coming years about how to navigate and view the information, content will remain free, but with larger value Payment will be added.

Antonio Castillo said that in this context the role of telecom operators is still vague and hidden to the consumer, but added that Telefonica will not settle for being just a carrier (carrier) in this business and to explore its involvement in the content area.

Castillo said that between printed and digital formats, "there will be a long transition, at least a generation, in which both models coexist" and then there will come a time when print may be ineffective, and at that moment passed as with vinyl records, and (print) end up in museums. "
