Homer's Odyssey the 3

Homer - The Odyssey

The Odyssey (Greek: Odísia) is a Greek epic poem composed of 24 songs, attributed to Greek poet Homer. Believed to have been written around the eighth century BC C., in the settlements that Greece was on the west coast of Asia Minor (now Turkey in Asia). According to others, the Odyssey is completed in the seventh century C. from poems describing only parts of the current work. It was originally written in what has been called Homeric dialect. Recounts the journey home of Greek hero Odysseus (Ulysses in Latin) after the Trojan War. Odysseus takes twenty years to return to the island of Ithaca, where he held the title of king, during which his son Telemachus and wife Penelope have to tolerate in his palace to the suitors seeking to marry (because it believed dead Odysseus) while consuming the goods of the family.

Tell me, Muse, the story of the man of many paths
who wandered very far after ravage sacred Troy;
saw many cities of men and knew his spirit
and suffered untold pain at sea trying
ensure the life and the return of their peers.
But failed to save them, with much love him,
because of its own folly victims succumbed,
Crazy! Helios Hyperion cows ate
at which point they ended for the day of return.
Goddess, daughter of Zeus, to us,
Tell us a passage of these events.

Highly recommended for those who do not like reading ...
and especially for those who like literature.
