The S1 model features a 9.4 inch screen, while the S2 has two screens of 5.5 inches each.

The Japanese company Sony in Tokyo on Tuesday introduced two multimedia digital tablets, with code names S1 and S2, the second equipped with two screens, to compete with Apple iPad American leader in this market.

The two tablets of Sony work with OS 3.0 and Google Android Market will fall progressively from 2011 in the northern hemisphere.

Sony tablets have an online content service "accessible quickly to buy and upload videos, music and other entertainment," said Kunimasa Suzuki, manager of the company in a press conference.

The new tablets will be compatible with games on the PlayStation platform.

The S1 model has a screen about 10 inches (25 cm) diagonally, two cameras and access to Wi-Fi network.

The tablet S2, which folds in half and can be stored in a pocket, is larger than a "smartphone", but smaller than an iPad. And the big difference is the two 5.5-inch touch screens each.

"The S2 is particularly relevant to the numerical reading books whose content is displayed on screen as two pages," said Suzuki.
