NEW YORK (AP) - Sales figures who had mysteriously vanished from the lists of most successful books from Amazon.com are reappearing on the famous online shop.

Two days after Amazon said a technical problem had brought down the ranks of selling thousands of books, the figures revived on Tuesday for "Brokeback Mountain" by Annie Proulx, "Giovanni 's Room" by James Baldwin and other featured titles.

Some authors whose ranks declined Amazon received messages informing them that their books had been included in the category for "Adult" and were removed from some lists of best sellers and online search functions. Amazon on Monday described the amendments as "shameful" and blamed "a clumsy error classification" and promised further action to prevent them in the future.
