Latest versions of the main desks, office suite LibreOffice in place of OpenOffice and Firefox 4 and Chromium main novelties of this distribution, for the moment, does not seem to notice any negative influence on the sale of Novell.

openSUSE continuing its journey without incident despite Novell's recent acquisition by Attachmate. And it is already known that these operations can lead to problems and conflicts with the community versions of the software products of the acquired company. There seems to be so in this case and, thus, reached the fourth iteration of openSUSE 11.

Among the main novelty in this new version are:

- Reduced time to boot, something that managers and developers have been working openSUSE and improved version after version.
- In addition to the latest versions of the major desktops (GNOME, KDE, XFCE and LXDE as officially supported), also includes a preview of GNOME 3.0 and GNOME Shell. KDE desktop is still the default supported by the distro.
