The "Guinness World Records said his organization was started when one day in 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver, then the executive director of Guinness Brewery, was hunting with his colleagues and debating whether the fastest game bird in Europe was the plover gold or grouse. It struck him that a book would provide the answer to these questions could become very popular.
The idea of Sir Hugh Beaver became a reality when he decided to entrust to Norris and Ross McWhirter, who had a time in charge of a research company in London, to compile what became The Guinness Book of Records.
