Oxford Murders film on the novel by Guillermo Martinez bahiense

The Oxford Murders, starring John Hurt and Elijah Wood and shot in English, premiered in Madrid on Thursday January 17 and in its first weekend box office record poster was. Guillermo Martinez went to the premiere, where he saw the film a second time, the first having been in a private function.

"At that time he had been aware of the changes that were made to see if history is maintained on the screen. Now I see it as a film itself, with its own gear." And do you like? "Sure, as a closed deal with the producer to film the slow death of Luciana B, his new novel.

- Do you caused some fear the leap from book to celluloid?

"Yes, of course, think it was a leap of faith. More like the way I gave it: di all freedoms, it became clear they would do their own version. For me it was important that the director felt he had creative freedom, it was not a task order. However there was a sort of gentlemen's agreement about respecting the spirit of the novel, the main plot lines, characters. And it's true: the film is reminiscent of the novel but the director has found a way to express a view very, very touching. There is an emphasis on the end which gives an idea different from the novel. I felt a shiver of sadness related to the failure of intelligence. That is the feeling that makes the movie and is not in the novel.

- Did you discover a potential that had not taken into account?

"Some of the potential had warned the writing but not in those ways because I insisted on a novel you have to be very careful not to reveal the final. I preferred to leave many of the situations mentioned in the film goes further. - Did you ever thought that a great success of the film could eclipse the novel? Not at all. The novel has gone much further than I imagined, nothing could overshadow what has happened. In any case, the film gives new life. It is now one of the five best-selling books in Spain. Of course, be those who say, "Guillermo Martínez was lucky that Alex de la Iglesia improved his novel." Those things ...

"From the Church confessed that reading the novel thought that it was almost impossible to make a film because it was so mental. Did you think that the film could miss that aspect?

"Well, there are precise mathematical conversations in the novel was transformed into a philosophical discussion more general and it might lead to some dramatic play. I think found a way to convey something of the mental game of the novel, but with dramatic power. But I do not agree at all with it being a mental novel. Mathematics in my story has the same role as fishing gear in the stories of Hemingway. It has to do with the credibility, the color of the narrative. It was a novel in which the talks were important, but there was very promising visual scenes.

- Have you seen this movie before potential?

"Yes, there are issues that the visually imagined. What happens is that my novels, in general, are narrated in first person narrative is such a difficulty of filming, part of the intellectual processing of situations the camera can not do. In that sense, I never imagined that my novels could be made into films. Also, do not think the film is the upper stage of recognition of the writer. One hopes that the recognition of the literature, not adaptations.
