Buenos Aires was chosen by UNESCO as World Book Capital 2011

"They say that Buenos Aires does not have to go find the books because the books they find one." The government's argument persuaded the city to Unesco, which has elected to Buenos Aires as World Book Capital 2011.
The news, that yesterday enthused the local publishing company, means that for a year, all the literary and publishing Buenos Aires will be displayed before the world, will multiply here the activities related to books and reading, and links will be strengthened publishers in different countries, which will open the door to new business.
In selecting the Unesco-held annually since 2001 - Buenos Aires beat Caracas, Havana, Lagos (Nigeria), Porto Novo (Benin), Sharjah (UAE) and Tehran.
Among the proposals presented by the city to realize in 2011, highlighted the opening of a children's and youth library and the creation of a multilingual public library. Also, the realization of a collection of one hundred classic literature in audiobook format, a media phenomenon and sales in several countries.
In various public spaces, texts represent writers on the city. A festival of fantastic literature, a publication of young poets and a week of bookstores in the neighborhood are other initiatives.
