Google and resolve Guild book-scanning lawsuit

Google reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed against the company after the scanned internet written material protected by intellectual property rules.

The agreement `` will expand Internet access to millions of books and other written material of significant collections of U.S. libraries participating in Google Book Search (Google Book Search),''according to a statement issued Tuesday by the Writers Guild, the Association of American Publishers and Google.

If approved by a federal court in Manhattan, the deal will end the lawsuit filed against Google two years ago and had been followed closely by the publishing industry in its discussion of how the Internet should work on intellectual property law .

Under the Google Library Project Writing, millions of books protected will appear included in an index on Google. The company said the project is an invaluable chance for books to have a wider public.

However, in papers filed in 2006 in a court in Manhattan, the publishers association cited `` the continued and irreparable harm publishers are suffering because of Google's violations of intellectual property rights to advance their commercial interests' '.
