The Three Musketeers
(French: Les Trois Mousquetaires) is a novel by French writer Alexandre Dumas. In this story about the adventures of a young man named D 'Artagnan, after leaving home to become a musketeer. D "Artagnan is not one of the musketeers of the title, but these are his friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis Jesuit.

The story of D "Artagnan is continued in" Twenty Years Later "and" The Viscount Bragelonne. "These three novels by Dumas are together known as the novels of D 'Artagnan.

The Three Musketeers was first published as a series for the magazine Le Siècle between March and July 1844. Dumas said that its composition was based on manuscripts he discovered in the Bibliothèque Nationale. It was proven that Dumas based his work on the book Mémoires de Monsieur d 'Artagnan, capitaine lieutenant of the première compagnie des Mousquetaires du Roi "(Memoirs of Mr. D" Artagnan, Lieutenant Captain of the first company of the King's Musketeers) by of Courtilz de Sandras Gatien (Cologne, 1700). Synopsis

The book introduces the world of antique dealers and collectors of old books. Lucas Corso, a mercenary search of rare books, is hired to authenticate a manuscript attributed to Alexandre Dumas. Alongside him is a second request: find out what the authentic copy of the three existing book "Novem Portis umbrarum regni" (The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows), which supposedly contains the method to invoke the devil as the demonic.

During the investigation, Corso crosses strange characters including obsessed bibliophiles, followers of the devil and a haunting femme fatale. The investigations run in Madrid, Sintra, Paris, Meung and Toledo, where murders happen and intriguing events.

Adaptations

The movie The Ninth Gate ("The Ninth Gate" Roman Polanski is based on the novel by Perez-Reverte, but forget the theme of the Club, to focus only on what the book is evil.
