It's a bloody history that might interest both Argentines and Chileans in particular because his argument is based on how the history of these countries was drastically manipulated to implement capitalism in both countries in addition to other raw examples of how this was achieved in other societies such as the Iraq war and the precipitous departure of Russian Communist government.

The book and film argue that the economic policies of Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics have gained importance in countries with free market models not because they were popular, but because they have remained important through impacts on social psychology with causing a disaster or emergency to the shock and confusion can be made unpopular reforms. It is assumed that some of these disturbances, as the coup in Chile, the Falklands War, September 11, 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, or the crisis of Hurricane Katrina may have been exploited with the intention of pushing adoption of a series of reforms.
