The history of Guinness World Records
One day in 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver, then executive director of Guinness Brewery, was hunting with his colleagues and debating whether the fastest game bird in Europe was the golden plover or the grouse. It struck him that a book would provide the answer to these questions could become very popular. And he was right!
The idea of Sir Hugh Beaver became a reality when he decided to entrust to Norris and Ross McWhirter, who had a time in charge of a research company in London, to compile what became The Guinness Book of Records. The first edition was published on August 27, 1955, and Christmas was number one bestseller in the United Kingdom.
Since then, Guinness World Records â„¢ has become a household name everywhere and a leader in world records. No other enterprise collects, confirms, accredits and presents world record data with the same level of completeness and accuracy.
